Hello,

I'm thinking of upgrading from WinXP to Vista.

But I'm not sure if programs for XP, which I currently use, can also run
well under Vista.

Can they?

might be just as easy to check with the producer of the programs to see if they have a vista version available.

some will using the compatibility mode and others will not.

It is hit or miss I have found.

One of the PC magazines has twice said the Quickbooks 2006 and earlier will
not run, yet I am running Quickbooks 99 with NO problems. I have a 1997
edition of Lotus WordPro (which I was VERY worried about) that runs fine, yet
the software for my one year old Nikon Coolscan V scanner does not install.

You really need to go through your list program by program and check with
MicroSoft ot the program's website. I was lucky: MicroCenter allowed me to
install the 1997 Lotus software on a demo model of the Toshiba I planned to
buy, to test it!

The last and final UK version of Quicken (2004) runs faultlessly in
compatibility mode, which was recommended automatically during installation.

I had thought that there might have been a chance for *all* the XP
programs in the world to run fine under Vista, until I read these
follow-ups of my original message.

I have some important business programs that are specifially written for
our shop by contracted programmers. I think it's best to postpone the
upgrading to Vista before I'm sure those programs can run fine under
Vista.

Best to have your programmer who wrote the program make that
determination. Shouldn't cost that much and is well worth it.

That is NEVER the case with major OS upgrades...
