Can Ping Can't Access Two Sites...PLEASE HELP

K

Ken Schoenberg

Okay, I am totally frustrated.
There are two sites which I cannot access, both have
substantially the same
IP address.
www.checkfree.com
https://www.oasis.cfree.com

The second secure site is where a lot of Quicken related
banking
transactions go through so it is very important to me.

A couple of weeks ago it just stopped working on my
machine, but two other
machines on the same network using the same router can
access both sites
without a problem

I have tried:
1. Checking Hosts File - it just has the one entry for
local host
2. flushing DNS Cache
3. Stopping DNS Client
4. Searching every file on my machine for the string
208.235 (the beginning
of the Checkfree IP address) and for checkfree to see if
there was something
blocking them.
5. Disabling and then Uninstalling my antivirus and popup
blockers and then
Spybot.
6. Shut off the firewall on the SMC router
7. Connected directly to the internet without a router.
None of this has worked. I can get to every other site on
the web that I can
think, secure or unsecure.
I can ping and traceroute to these sites without a problem.

So, I formated my HD and reinstalled...it worked for a
while but then
stopped

I have done that again....and once again it worked for
several days and then
again today I can't access those two sites. I haven't even
tried with
Quicken, just IE and it keeps telling me it's connecting
and then stops and
gives me the DNS error.
Sometimes it will load a small piece of the page and then
quit...but most of
the time it's just a DNS error.

Today I tried using a proxy server and the pages load fine
when I go through
a public proxy server, but as soon as I go back direct it
stops.

Please help...I promise a large box of Florida's finest
citrus shipped to
the person that can help me solve this problem.

I can't go through those reinstalls again of everything...

Thank you in advance,
Ken

Hi Ken:

Please try this:
Go to Tools - Internet Options in Internet Explorer. Click
on the Security tab. Click on Trusted Sites. Click on the
Sites button. Uncheck require server verification. Add
both addresses to trusted sites. Click ok. Try again to
get in.
A windows update may have defaulted something in the
browser which is locking you out. If this still fails, try
installing Mozilla Firebird (see mozilla.org) and install
that. I think it supports SSL security. If not then try
Netscape.
best of luck

Patrick,
No luck, but I think I have fixed the problem. While reading every message I
could I found a command that completely rebuilds the TCP/IP driver. I tried
it and now I can access the sites again. I'm not sure why that driver would
have become corrupted three times, but it appears I have a fix.
Thanks,
Ken
