Can OST Files Be Copied From One Machine To Another With No Impact

We are migrating a large number of PCs to newer hardware. The environment is
WXP with Office 2000 on both the new and old machines. Our users have very
large OSTs (on average over 1GB). As the Exchange server is remote, we would
like to copy the OST files from the old machine to the new machine on the
local LAN intead of re-syncing fully with Exchange. We also will be copying
the Outlook registry settings between the PCs and preserving the OST location.

Should this work? Any caveats?

Careful. Don't get too close to the maximum size for OSTs (1.8 GB).
