Can one use categories in Opportunities?

Hello,

I just downloaded BCM yesterday and I have to say that it looks like a very
good and useful tool in terms of tracing, following-up on opportunities and
customers. I really would like to be able to filter the list of opportunities
using the category field and according to the BCM help files one is supposed
to be able to do just that. But I get an error message saying that that
option is not available when I try... I'm confused. Please, can anyone help!

Thanks!

Hi Maria,

Since an opportunity form does not have the Category field, filtering based
on this field will not give any records.
Yet, in order to filter the Opportunity View by Category do the following:
1. Click on 'View -->Arrange By --> Current View --> Customize current view'
2. Click on the 'Filter' button
3. Click on the 'More Choices' tab
4. Click on 'Categories' button and select all the categories required.

This will enable the filter on the opportunity view.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Much appreciated!

I tried to filter the Opportunity view using the "more choices" tab but it
came back with no result. I'm a bit confused.. If the category field is not
available in the Opportunity form - what category is it looking to filter? I
have added categories to my contacts to help me show which customer is buying
which product. I selected one of the product categories when filtering the
view but as I said - no result. What am I doing wrong?

The reason I wanted the category field in Opportunities in the first place
was for reporting purposes. So, in theory I guess I could solve the problem
another way... My plan is to connect the BCM to an MS Access database and
then pull off reports from the Access database to give the users a wider
variety of reports. Using the category field from the "contacts-table" would
help me filter the data the way I want. It sounds too easy. Would that work?

Thanks!
