can not run restore from xp disk have a corupted or missing

I load a new program ,after install it rebooted .Windows did not reboot back up went into safe mode
Rebooted system windows xp loaded screen littering all garbled .Logged in all my screen founts where
effected could not change any settings.Tried to roll back to last knowing good saved point .Did not work
Try to run repair from installation disk on xp.It came up with a message that the version that I was runing was a newer version then was on my disk. Any segregation what I can do ?
 
First, what program did you install?

Second is this a store purchased PC or one you built yourself?

It sounds like you are hosed. If this is a Compaq/dell/ etc I would use the
system restore cd's that came with your purchase.

If this is a homemade system, format and re-install.

Neither sound like fun options, but sometimes its the only way.
