Since you have an upgrade installation, the first thing to do is remove the
present printer driver. Next, install the XP driver from the printer from
the best source.

To remove the present driver: navigate to Control Panel Printers and faxes
Highlight the printer. Select Delete this printer from the left window.

For a new driver: Try the printer maker's web site. If there is a driver,
there, download it. Note any installation instructions. Check for a printer
remover utility. If there is one, download and use that before installing
the new driver. If there is no driver from that source, try XP's add printer
wizard.

If you want more help/suggestions, let us know-
The make and model of the printer; the make and model of computer; the
source of the driver(s) you tried; what you did and what the results were.
In particular, any error messages there might have been.

Let us know.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. From the Hardware tab,
select Device Manager. Double click on Ports (Com and LPT) , then on the
entry for the ECP Printer Port.

In the tab marked Port Settings, put a check mark in Enable legacy Plug and
Play Detection.

Does it now pick up your printer?
