Can not open pdf files from the web

I am running windows XP on my computer. I am unable to
open pdf files on the web. Most of the time, I have to
download the pdf files to open it locally and sometimes
even that step doesn't work. Please help.

Re-install Adobe Acrobat Reader. Current version is 6, but 5.x should work
just fine.
