Can not open excel file by double clicking on short cut of file fo

I can open any of my excel file by double clicking on the short cut or file
folder, but if I go into excel and then open from within excel everything is
fine.

I have tried open by right clicking and choosing to open with excel and that
does not work

Any sugestions
 
Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Maybe one of these will work for you.
