Can not copy Outlook: Parameter incorrect

Re: Outlook 2002 on Win XP Home

Needed to reformat hard drive. Prior to formatting I burned a copy of the
Outlook.pst; archive.pst and extend.dat to a CD.

When trying to copy from the CD to the newly formatted hard drive or any
other machine for that matter, I get the message "Can not copy Outlook:
Parameter incorrect"

If I try to copy the extend.dat file I get this message:
"Cannot copy extend: Cannot read from the scource file or disk"

The My Documents folder and several other data files were all on this CD and
they copied flawlessly. Is there any hope of me recovering the Outlook files?

Thanks!

You neglected to list the method by which you are trying to copy these
files.

"Burned" how? Using CD/DVD burning software? The inbuilt CD burning
support in Windows XP? Using UDF by using Ahead's InCD or Roxio's
DirectCD? How?

How are you doing the copy? Is this error during the copy operation or
when Outlook tries to use the file that got copied to the hard disk?
If I try to copy the extend.dat file I get this message:
"Cannot copy extend: Cannot read from the scource file or disk"

"Copied flawlessly" mean they copied *onto* the CD okay or that you
could copy them *off* the CD okay and onto the hard disk?

Thank you for taking the time Russ. I copied the files using a program
called Express Burn, a very simple freeware program. As mentioned I burned
them to a CD-R and was able to copy other data e.g. My Documents back from
this CD to the hard drive, no problem, using COPY & PASTE. I had Outlook
closed at the time though, just to be sure I also tried to import into
Outlook using Outlook 2002's File/Import command. Nothing I try seems to
work in returning these files to the hard disk.
At one point I did get the message Access Denied so I set up Outlook 2002
exactly with the same profile, Username and password as it had when the file
was burned to CD. I did not try to use Outlook to export the file. I just
burned it as data like any other data. Outlook was not open at the time of
the burn since the computer would no longer boot and I used Ultimate Boot CD
for Windows to boot it as well as burn it.
I hope this addtional information helps better explain my plight.
Thanks again.

Thank you for your interest.

I am trying to copy back from the CD using Windows Copy & Paste. The error
message appears when I try to paste the file to hard drive.

The software used to make the burn was 'Express Burn' a freeware program
included in the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows that I used to boot the computer
since Windows XP Home would not boot the computer.

By copied flawlessly I meant to imply that the burn reported successful and
the copy and paste operations of all other files on the CD to the hard drive
also went fine. It is only the Outlook files that I am experiencing this
problem with.

Presumably you get the same error if, within explorer, you try drag & drop?
Tried, in the command prompt, xcopy?
