Can multiple computers have a synchronised email inbox/outbox?

We have several computers on a LAN and people at each machine, all of whom
check and deal with incoming emails. We are looking for a system where we can
share and inbox and an outbox so that each computer can see all the emails
that have been sent from any of the other computers and all the computers can
read all of the emails that have been recieved. We also need this system to
be synchronised so that when one user deletes an email, none of the users see
the email anymore. ie how do multiple users on seperate computers share an
inbox and an outbox

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Ractive asked:
