Hi,
I'va a valid copy of Win XP Pro SP1...and as my machine
which it is currently installed on I wanted to build a
new machine and put XP on that. Can I do it? I've the
correct serial number , but I was wondering what would
happen when I came to install and later do the product
activation thingy over the telephone or internet? Would
it claim I'd pirated the copy or something similar? Any
experiences?

Thanks..
Ian

Ian as long as it is not an OEM copy of Windows XP.
In other words - to move a Windows XP installation form one PC to another it
must be a retail product (big blue or green cardboard box etc)
Try and activate over the Internet. If this is refused just make the call
(usually toll free) and it takes about 4 mins.

Greetings --

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
