Can I stop Outlook from closing once I hit close?

Is there an "are you sure" option in outlook after selecting "close"? More
often than I care to say I have hit the X for outlook thinking I was closing
an e-mail. Isn't there a response that gives you a chance to say "No, I don't
want to actually close Outlook. This is a mistake. Don't close!"

No, not unless you have something in the Outbox. If you do have something
there, you'll be asked "send mail before closing?" Why don't you resize your
windows so you do not use full pane in any email or even in Outlook? Make the
email windows smaller than the OL window and maybe you won't make that
mistake. Or use the minimize button instead to see what gets minimized to the
tray.

No, but you can simulate one by composing a message (no recipient) and
saving it in your Outbox. When you close Outlook, it will tell you you have
unsent mail and ask if you would like close anyway.
