Can I scan data into Excel from a document?

Can anybody help me, how can I scan a document with tabular information in
it, into my computer and then import it to excel. What file formats need I
use?

hi,
I'm not too sure you can do what you have in mind.
Scanned documents are more like pictures meaning that it
would import into excel like an object. you wouldn't be
able to parce it out into cells.
so if you do have parceing the document out into the cell
in mind, i would try to go about it another way. and from
a paper document, typing it in is about the only way you
can do that.

there is basic Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software out there

this would "look" at your scan, and give you back editable text whic
could then be imported into excel

haven't used it in years tho so I can't recommend any..

You need OCR software that can convert the graphic image into text. Some
scanners include it.

I have used OCR extensively, and, at best, they scan and transpose with
90-95% accuracy. Numbers are especially tricky, depending on Font, size,
etc. a 1 may be a 7, often a zero is set as the letter 'oh', and so on.
Still, editing these may be easier than the alternatives.
