Can I retrieve lost e-mails from outlook express?

I recently had my computer hard drive backed up on a CD and then re-formated.
I can view the Outlook express folder on my CD but when I prompt my outllook
express program to import from the CD outlook directory it states "no
messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that
has the required files open.... please select another folder or try closing
applications that may have files open?"

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)
