I never use Windows Messenger and would like to remove the icon from my
taskbar (down by the clock) so I don't have to close it every time I log on.

You can find the option to not load when Windows starts in Messenger's
preferences. Take it out of OE as well.

Alias

You can use MSCONFIG to disable Messenger from starting, or for a more
permanent solution you can use REGEDIT to locate the following Key and
delete the Messenger component (MSMSGS):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Be careful. Editing the Registry can be a problem if you delete the wrong
thing. Suggest you make a backup of the Registry Key before editing. Use
File>Export to save the Key as a REG file.

Tools/options - preferences tab - deselect 'Run Windows Messenger when
Windows starts' & click on OK.
It won't start when you log on in future & it won't appear in the System
Tray until you actually run it.
Regards Mike.

Might help to take it out of OE as well.

Start/run/msconfig/startup/uncheck "msmsgs".You'll have to confirm this
action at the prompt next reboot.
