can I remove patches listed in Add/Remove programs

Hi, all. I've got XP and when I installed my new virus software it turned on
my Windows update. I had intentionally turned it off becuase my boot drive
is small and I didn't have the room for SP2. Well, it went and loaded SP2 on
the drive and now I've got less than 100M on the drive. I was looking for
stuff that I could remove and saw a ton of patches that are shown in the
Add/Remove list. How do I tell if these are old? I thought that SP2 patched
up everything so can I remove any (or all) of these? I'm not sure how the
patching work and if it cleans the computer up at the same time or just keeps
stacking one on top of each other leaving the old stuff behind. Any help
appreciated. Thanks.

If you remove a patch under add&remove you will have "uninstalled"the
patch...
If you look under the "Windows" folder you will see the "uninstall
folders"...$NtUninstallKBxxxx$
These can be deleted..and it will free up some space.
I assume you have done the disk cleanup routine to get rid of Temp/Cache/etc
files??
You dont say how small your HD is....maybe its time to look at adding a
larger HD as a slave to the main HD.
Then transferring some of your programs/IE Cache/MailBox/saved personal
files to the new drive.
You also could then install any new programs to the new drive. Most mobo have
connections for 4 Ide drives..of course you could have a Laptop....then
maybe its time to look at an external HD.

Peter-

I'll take a look at the Windows folder and dump those. My only concern
about "uninstalling" one is that it will undo the patch and then I will end
up having to re-patch next time I check. I'm not sure about the patching
programs and how that is all coded, and I was hoping the SP2 basically
trumped the old ones and that those could go away.
The problem with the drive is that it is a 40 GB (old computer) and it was
partitioned with only 4 GB on the boot drive ($%&*!!!). Of course, XP and
Office suck up most of that, and then McAffee takes the next chunk. I'd like
to move Office, but don't have the disc anymore so I'm waiting to buy a new
one first. Anyway, I'll see what that clears up. Thanks for the reply.

Ah!!.......But in the meantime you can buy another HD and when you buy new
add that HD to the new.
Check to see how much empty space you have on the 2nd partition because its
also possible to create "unallocated" space from that free space and add
that unallocated space to your boot partition.
