When a group of images is displayed on a webpage it is quite common for the
site designer to create a caption box that appears when you move the mouse
over a specific image. So far so good. However, my view of such useful
captions is almost always blocked by a standard Windows XP mini image toolbox
that also appears automatically when you move the mouse over any image on
screen.

Is there any way to prevent the popup of this image toolbox? It simply
contains small icons for saving the image to disk, zooming in/out, etc. I
find it very irritating.

Try this. Open Control Panel\Internet Options\Advance Tab. Scroll down to
Enable Image Tool Bar (requires restart) and clear the check mark. Hope
this does the trick for you.

Well, that seems a very logical suggestion, for which much thanks.
Unfortunately, however, it doesn't work for me (even after a reboot). I still
have my irritating floating Image Tool Bar. Any more suggestions?

No other suggestions. That was the extent of my knowledge on the subject.
Might look around on http://support.microsoft.com/ (if you haven't
already). Enter Image Tool Bar in search box.
