Can I reinstall Windows Explorer?

My Windows Explorer is absolutely messed up. It freezes up whenever it
pleases and it's really unreliable.

What I need is a way to reinstall Windows Explorer (not just the one I
explore my files with, I mean the Explorer.exe as a whole, as if I'm
reinstalling Windows on asteroids), is there anyway to "repair" it, instead
of going thru reinstallation of Windows?

Thanks a bunch.

As I thought, it says "unable to open output file
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe" coz explorer is already open, can
I just do it with the startup disk? I'll give it a try.

The other thing is, I really think it's something messed
up in the registry, not just the executable of
Explorer.exe, so I could try to just copy my brother's
registry, but that's really not the way to go I'm sure, is
there a way to restore the original registry settings for
explorer? I tried System Restore, but I don't have a point
old enuf, just one from two days.

Thanks a bunch.

Hi Deuce,

See if this helps: Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:
expand x:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

Hi
I have a similar problem.
Explorer on my PC is very slow and uses up too many resources.
Whether it is used as the start menu, context sensitive help, or just moving
files around, it seems to use about 95% of my CPU and lots of disk activity.

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 2100+.

Tried running the command below but get the message
"Can't open input file: x:\i386\explorer.ex_"
Replace the X: bit with the drive letter of your CD Drive
(which can be from D: to Z:) and make sure your XP CD is in the drive.
