can i reformat my hard drive and still keep xp?

i bought the upgrade for xp pro and now i want to
reformat my hard drive. i want to know if i am going to
have to buy xp pro again or can i reinstall xp pro
without any problems?

Hi, You can install Windows XP on the same PC as many times as you wish. If
you are saying that you already have Windows XP install and you have an
upgrade disc, just boot from the CD and you can format and start your new
install.

Yes. You can use the tools on the CD to format and install.
You can insert the CD and it should offer you the install
options and it would "know" that you already have XP
installed.

You could also boot the CD and begin the install and the
system should also "see" the current Windows OS.

If you formatted before you began, you would need the
previous OS CD (W 98, 95, ME) to prove you had the right to
use an upgrade.

You should be able to just re-install using the current
software you have but because it is the upgrade version
it will probably require you to input the CD/Floppy from
an acceptable previous version of Windows (98, ME, NT or
XP Home). Good Luck.

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.
