Can I prevent opening original document when I open new one?

When opening a second Word document, is it possible to prevent Word from
restoring the first one again?

I have the first one minimized to the taskbar, then open another document.
The first one restores as it opens the second. It's irritating and
unnecessary. I'd like to keep the first one on the taskbar. Is this possible?
I don't care if I have to go through extensive work to change this...it's
that irritating.

Using MS Office Professional Edition 11.6359.6360 SP1.

Thanks!

Hi Will-

See if there is a check in the box for Windows in Taskbar(
Tools>Options>View). If not, check the box & see if that helps.

Thanks CyberTaz--

But it still works basically the same way -- you can't open an additional
document without one or all of the already open ones restoring behind it.
It's not a serious issue, it's just irritating. I've found that there are
ways to adjust many settings that I wouldn't have expected, so I thought I'd
see if there were a way to do this.

Thanks again!

Sorry it wasn't more successful, but I don't understand why it wasn't. In
Word '03 on Windows XP Pro, minimized document windows stay minimized as
Taskbar buttons regardless of what I do with other doc windows.

Which version of Windows are you using? Have you set up anything using
'Workspaces'?
