Can I not read an XML document from within a Web Service?

When I call .Read() it doesn't then do what it should. It doesn't give me
an error, though. It may be because I'm using the AJAX SlideShowExtender
but I'm not sure.

OK:
a: in what way are you calling .Read()
b: what exactly is happening (is there an exception? if so, what
exception?)
c: how do you expect it to behave

Or better - can you post a few lines that demonstrate what isn't
working?
