Can I move Documents and Settings folder?

Is it possible to move the Documents and Settings folder
from the C: drive to another local hard drive? One of our
computers running XP Pro is short on space on the C: drive
and moving Documents and Settings would be the most
logical fix if it can be done. Thanks.

Right-click on your My Documents desktop icon and select:
Properties > Move

I don't think you can move the Documents and Settings folder but you CAN
move the "My Documents" and the Mail folders of each user out of that
folder and onto another drive.

That wasn't the question - the OP wanted to know about moving the
Documents and Settings folder in it's entirety!

I actually asked this question a while back and the answer is "sort of"!
There are registry settings that have to be changed and those settings are
not all buncked together. Further, you can not just click and drag the
folder to another disk. Various files are locked.

In short, you are better off 1) moving the "My documents" folder for each
user while logged in as that user and 2) assuming you are using Outlook
Express, moving your message store to the other hard drive as well. I moved
my Email to a subfolder under My Documents. And so everything is together,
I also migrated my system's WAB to the other drive as well.

I am a firmly believe that data should be separate from the OS if you have
the physical resources.
