Does anyone know if I can install Windows XP Professional
on two computers? I just bought a laptop. I have XP
Professional on my desktop currently. The laptop comes
with XP Home but I want XP Professional on both for
networking reasons. Can I put my current XP Professional
on my laptop without licensing issues.

Yes you can install that copy of XP Pro on your laptop but if you want it to
work you will need to purchase another license.

No. The rule is quite clear. It's one copy (or one license) for
each computer.

There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's
been in effect on every version of Windows starting with Windows
3.1. The only thing new with XP is that there's now an
enforcement mechanism.

By the way, XP Professional and XP Home can be networked together
without a problem.

I have read the end user licencing thing that comes with copies of xp and it
says that you cant install it on another machine. But who is to know really?
Who in their right mind is going to shell out more cash? And if it is an
ethernet card network win xp home and xp pro do work with each other. I have
a network at home with home on one machine and pro on the other.

No one will know but keep in mind that without activation you only have 30
days and then it's gone.
