I have hundreds of archived outlook emails in the form of .msg files and I am
wondering if I can import them into Word.

I don't believe you can do that without using Outlook as an intermediary
(e.g., for copy/paste). Word doesn't appear to have a converter that works
on .msg formatted files.

I have now tried the demo and it appears to do what you require.

Hi, Graham,

Did you test ABC Amber with formatted email .msg files? It seems to save
everything as text -- regardless of settings, as far as I can tell. It
doesn't even reconstitute URLs as links. I tried converting to rtf, doc,
html, even pdf. None gave anything resembling the view from opening the
message using Outlook.

It seems to handle some formatted emails semi-correctly if opened directly
from its reading of your .pst file (except that it doesn't seem to want to
display pictures).

OTOH, if I open a stand-alone .msg file in Outlook, it displays perfectly,
and I can either save as in .htm or .rtf (depending on the original
formatting of the file) or select/copy and paste into Word without losing
anything. A pain if you have hundreds of files, yes. But, unless there's
some magic key to ABC Amber that I didn't discover, it probably won't help
if Krissi needs/wants to preserve original formatting.

Too bad, really. Had it handled formatting correctly, I probably would've
spent the $20. It could've been useful.

Or... did you manage to get it to do more than I could?

I merely opened the application to see if it would convert msg files to Word
format - I didn't look any deeper than that; and I have since uninstalled it
again :(.

For the odd e-mail I want to put into Word, I would use the method you
suggested from Outlook - but as you say for a large batch of e-mails this
isn't practical. It may be possible using vba in Outlook to batch process
from Outlook, but I have had enough problems recently transferring formatted
Word documents into Outl;ook messages to want to go there ;)
