when i enter a person's e-mail address in the 'contacts' it automatically
shows the contact's name and e-mail address in the "display as" field. is
there a way to have only the contact's name in the display as feild (without
having to change each contact individually)?

Sorry. This is the Microsoft Access Database newsgroup. It appears
your question is not related to that database. You are much more likely to
find someone with the answer if you post your question to a newsgroup
devoted to your subject.

A lot of people are misdirected here by the Microsoft help system.
Watch that last box when signing on, There is a drop down list that starts
with and shows the word Access. In this case it is not just a word, but it
is the name of their database product. You need to type in Outlook or
Outlook Express in that box.

I also suggest that you include the name of the product like Outlook and
the version, like 97 or XP when you ask the question.

Please post to the Outlook newsgroup (not Access) if you have an Outlook
question.

Thanks, how do i delete this thread?

That depends on your software. Some software does not allow that. In
any case I would not worry too much about it.
