I was wondering if there is anybody who could explain to me how the best way to transfer a file from my computer to a friends computer...This is a brand new area for me...Is a remote server necessary, or can files be copied directly from my computer, like on a local network?..If somebody could explain, step by step, how to get a file from my computer to a remote computer, or even point me in the direction of some place that could, it would be greatly appreciated...I have done some research before I came here, and all the info I am getting says I need to get an address from my ISP to upload to...Is this the only way?..Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to give

Hey Probs in Portland!

I need to ask you a couple of questions.....

How big is the file you are trying to send? If it's over approx 5mb many ISP will not allow you to transfer it.

How far away is your friend's PC? You may be able to hook up a cross over cable (network the two PC's together) - this may be the fastest way of transferring your data, but is a bit of fooling around if you are only going to dot his once....

Will the file fit on a USB "Thumb Drive"? These gizmo's are great for moving files around, and if you get the correct type you can even score an MP3 Walkman out of it.

You could use PKZIP and span the file over a few floppies (size allowing).

There are heaps of ways of doing this,

Let me know if you want more ideas.

Cheers Mate
