Can I get emails/address book from old hd?

Hi,

I've got my old h/d hooked up to a brand new one, I've got to get all my
data off the old one before sending it back to PC World.

I couldn't find my Office 2000 CD's so I installed Mozilla Thunderbird &
OpenOffice on the new h/d, but I need to either view/then save or just
save/import my old emails and attachments from the old hd onto the new one.

I know I can't import a pst file from the old hd to Thunderbird so it's been
suggested I run Outlook and then export and import that way.

Trouble is I can't seem to run Office from the old hd?????

I can see the Outlook icon in Program Files, but when I double click it, it
says that Outlook needs to be installed please run setup again. Well I can't
cause I don't have the CD's!!!!!

I really, really, really need to get the old emails because in my husbands
side his boss started emailing over his pay slips and the boss's hd failed
last week, so he's been asking everyone to send things back to him as he
didn't keep hard copies.

Is there anyway I can get Outlook running? Can I get to it via a different
path to run?

Thanks in advance!

You will only get OL to run if you boot your PC from the old hd, and unless
you have the win installation disk you wont be able to do this.(a recovery
disk is unlikely to help)
All the OL data is contained within pst file(s)
See below for location
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm

You need to either locate your Office cd's or seek assistance from someone
who has office/OL installed on their PC
PS many businesses fail when they lose data and have no backups, and having
no backups will not be accepted by any Gov.collection agency (taxes etc)

Hi

You've given me an idea to wait for a friend to return off holiday, I can
take my pst file to her house then manually save emails, address book perhaps
that way?

Unless in the meantime I can sort my house out and find my office disks -
it's soooo annoying having lost them recently, then the hd fails!!!

Thanks for the link I'll save the info from it and try my best to salvage
what I can!

As for the business not backing up - it's exactly what I told hubby, the
boss should have a hard copy of everything he emails out to his staff, seeing
as staff are self-employed and they have to submit everything to tax office
too - the Gov won't accept his hd has failed and as a director of a business
they should have taken more care with their records, I thought I was bad with
not backing up but at least it's only music and letters and stuff and so far
it's only my emails that I am having probs with, the rest I can drag from one
hd to the other!

Anyway, thanks again for your prompt reply, at least I know not to bother
trying anymore today and I'll get on with backing up my stuff!

Kindest Regards

Copy pst's to media, from media to HD, ensure read only flag is off. Then in
OL open them, do NOT import
