Can I get a "link hand" to work with "behaviors" (FP 2003)?

G

Guest

Pls. refer to http://www.univeyor.dk/newweb

I have made an image swap behavior ("Click here") but would like to have a
"link hand" when the cursor is above "click here". There is no link since
"Click here" is on a separate layer and initiates an image (on another layer)
to be swapped with an underlying animation file. Is there a way to obtain the
"link hand"??

Hi,
<style type="text/css">
..handClass{
cursor:pointer;
cursor:hand;
}
</style>
and then apply the class to the image.

Hi Jon

Thanks, it works nicely. I did not know you could apply css to a gif file.
HOWEVER: Please notice how the link hand sort of extends itself to the right
of the image ("click here") into the next cell (hereby disabling the 2 links
"Service Technician" and "Project Planner" - yes even extending itself to the
right of the page/main table ?? What am I doing wrong?

Did you close the class (</class>)?

Thanks for your answer. I am no good with html programming, so I defined it
in my main.css:

..handClass {cursor:pointer; cursor:hand}

It worked - partly, that is : )

Was it wrong procedure?

I spoke too soon and gave you an inaccurate suggestion. You don't close the
class, you close what you assign the class to, in your case the paragraph
tag. You applied it correctly to a paragraph tag and closed it. Again, I
apologize for jumping in with inaccurate info.

This is an opinion not right or wrong but I think that whole image in the
midde of your page should be a link. As a user I'd expect to be able to
click on it and go somewhere. Of course this would also remove the need to
use CSS to get the hand cursor.

G

Guest

You may be right that it would be more "expected" to use the photo as the
place you click - but since it is still a swap behavior I will still need the
css to get the hand cursor? And is there a reason why the link hand extends
itself to the right, as I mentionned (and thus disabling the mentionnned 2
links?)

cheers

Your use of absolute positioned divs in a table and the double VML (for your Email news) is causing your page to be rendered w/ a
horizontal scroll bar twice the width of your page,

Your layers for the swap are not the same ending width position thus causing the cursor hand to extend past the page content

Also Get rid of the <p> tags in the div (apply the class to the image)

PS
Delete the stray <center> and </center> in your page

Let me add my two cents again - hopefully accurately and constructively this
time :). In your CSS link (main.css), you didn't put a semi-colon after
cursor:hand, so maybe that's affecting its behavior.

Also, none of the items on your top menu (Storage Systems | Picking &
Sorting | Layer Picking, etc.) are linked to anything.

Thanks for your answer - though it brings me in trouble. I am a novice to
this, normally working with printed material and video, and using FP 2003
because I know nothing about html programming.... I am heading out to
re-design an existing web site and believed to be able to do the job with FP?

1: I use absolute positioning because it was the only way I could control
positioning of the layers and elements placed in them (via FP interface, not
programmed "by hand"). Is that a problem?

2: A "double VML"? I thought I just put a link in a layer ? How will I avoid
the page to be rendered w/ a horizontal scroll bar twice the width of the
page?

3: I have now corrected it, so that layers for the swap are the same ending
width position but the cursor hand still extends past the page cont?

4: I have deleted stray <center> and </center> as you said (I am afraid I
have not got any idea of the function of it in the first place)

5: "Also Get rid of the <p> tags in the div (apply the class to the image)"
??

best regards

1) Would require laying out your page totally using tables
(which is possible using image slices and behaviors applied to the images)
- the use of layers and absolute positioning is not for novices at Html, Dhtml and CSS
For example your layers and z order block the use of any links at the top of the page

2) Don't use VML, (only supported by IE, & no control of the positioning)
- create an image (from a screen shot of the page if necessary)

3) Check all your layers for overlaps
- your biggest problem is the divs w/ absolute positioning do not belong in the table
- and because to origin of all is 0, they overlap each other so they block each other
(only 1 can be on top at any time)

5) You have <p class="handClass"><img ...></p>
And just need <img class="handClass" ...>

Thanks again for answering - though You are really scaring me... So please
bear with me for asking a few more stupid questions...

Since I am at the beginning of designing this site I am willing to start all
over. Will using only tables solve these problems with:

A: A horizontal scroll bar twice the width of the page?
B: The cursor hand that extends past the page cont?

And what is an image slice (made from Image Ready?)

And I do not know what VML is. I made a text link on a layer ("Register for
e-news") - is that a VML?

And how do you make an <img class>

thanks in advance

I have now redesigned page using tables (and only 1 "click-layer" with
behavior attached). It works smoothly now. Thank you.

A tiny thing puzzles me though: Why does the page turn out higher than the
include menu page (left) should indicate (menu stops right beneath bottom
text). All tables/cells have no definition of height so I wonder why the page
continues below this text?

| Thanks again for answering - though You are really scaring me... So please
| bear with me for asking a few more stupid questions...
|
| Since I am at the beginning of designing this site I am willing to start all
| over. Will using only tables solve these problems with:
|
| A: A horizontal scroll bar twice the width of the page?
| B: The cursor hand that extends past the page cont?

YES
|
| And what is an image slice (made from Image Ready?)
YES or some other image tool
|
| And I do not know what VML is. I made a text link on a layer ("Register for
| e-news") - is that a VML?
YES
|
| And how do you make an <img class>
Select the image and right clcik for Picture Properties, Style - then enter the class
|

Your cell w/ the include has an extra p tag after the inlcude - remove it

You have
<td valign="top" width="160" bgcolor="#EBEBEB">
<!--webbot bot="Include" U-Include="page.htm" TAG="BODY" -->
<p>&nbsp;</td>

And should just have
<td valign="top" width="160" bgcolor="#EBEBEB">
<!--webbot bot="Include" U-Include="page.htm" TAG="BODY" -->
</td>
