I'm recovering the contents of a dead Windows laptop for someone who
is going to replace it with a MAC. The hard part part is what to do
about her Outlook folders.

I have the WAB address book file and at 172kb it's got lots of info.
Is there a way to dump this in any format usable in something other
than Outlook? A text file would be fine.

Hi - Outlook doesn't use WAB files; it uses PST files natively - perhaps you
mean Outlook Express?

You can export to CSV, I'm fairly certain - but try posting in an OE group
(not an Outlook one; they're different) for more help, or check out

I've often wondered why both programs have similar names when all they have
in common is the Usenet news reader.
I did try Outlook 2000 a few months ago but had to go back to Outlook
Express as my emails were saved in a totally different format.

Outlook uses Outlook Express as the news reader.

Outlook = Full
Express = Free and less feature rich

Like:

Visual Web Developer Express
SQL Server 2k5 Express

At least that's my understanding. *grins* That's just a guess and not
anything based on factual evidence. I think everyone on the planet (just
about) has had issues with the Microsoft naming conventions at one time or
another. If you're not into the beta software wait until all the
"expression" stuff is rolled out. That's fun...

It should be possible to load the file into a text editor, if you choose
one which will load any kind of file. Then you would delete the parts
that look like gibberish and keep the useful information. The old
Microsoft Write program would load anything, and so will PFE
(Programmer's File Editor). There must be others which work that way also.

both Outlook and Outlook Expres have the ability and options to output their contact address as COMMA SEPERATED VALUE file.
