Seeing as how Excel is a rather expensive commercial product, I think
it's a fair bet that any "copy" you found for free download would either
be an illegal pirate version, a cheap knock-off, or a trojan horse.
I suppose if you needed a good mountain bicycle you'ld ask where you
could steal one?
Many people worked many years to write the programming for Excel. It's
not free, for a reason.
If you'ld care to learn C++ and write a good spreadsheet application,
comprable in power to Excel, you're welcome to give it away free to
whoever would like it.
If you're not up to Mr. Vinson's C++ programming challenge, the best you can
get for free--legally--is the Microsoft Excel Viewer. As it's name implies,
it will allow you to view (and print) a spreadsheet, but you will not be able
to edit it.
As many others have indicated, Excel is not free. In fact, if you
haven't learned yet, nothing really is free, in that somehow, some
way, it will cost you something.
For a good spreadsheet at a bargin price, look for Quattro Pro by
Corel. It comes bundled with the WordPerfect Office, and older
versions should be available on eBay. For a current version at a
reasonable price, look at www.directdeals.com ($19 for ver 12, $15 for
ver 11)
