Can I do a text field larger than 255 char?

Hello there,

Here is a quick question: Can I add a text field that is biggerthan 255
characters?

Yes, text fields can contain more than 255 char, but all the fields on the item, except for the message body and attachments, can't total more than 32k, less in some cases.

Is this by default? Or do I have to customise anything?

That's just the way it works; there's nothing to customize.
