Can I disable F1 Key?

I would like to disable the F1 key function that calls up software help. I
sometimes hit it by mistake when I mean to use the F2 function, and so I'd
like to disable that F1 key.

With a standard desktop keyboard, try prying the small key cap off of the F1
key with a flathead screwdriver and leave it off. I don't know what you'd
do with a laptop.

OK, maybe you can't stop hitting the key accidentally. As to disabling or
remapping the key, it's pretty much on a program by program basis.

Here's a link on how to do this for Win Explorer,
http://www.hydrous.net/articles/disablef1.php

For other apps, you may have to look into their particular configuration or
macro facilities.

No, not so. You can remap keys, including disabling them completely, on a
global basis.

There are several third-party utilities that can do this. The one that I use
(I disable Insert and Caps Lock) is SharpKeys at
http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys/

Mike could use this to disable F1, or alternatively to make it always act
like F2.

Ken Blake,
Old drybones only gets a "SharpKeys has experienced a problem and We
are sorry for the incontinence." Error.

Downloaded to The Primary Drive "C" folder and used Win Zip 9 to open it
there.
Running WinXP Media SP2 .

Any ideas what I did wrong?

Thanks for reading and replying,
drybones

Sorry, no I have no idea. It works fine for me here, but that doesn't help
you. Try writing to Randy.

Beautiful! This worked fine for me. Although I did need to have .Net
Framework v2.0 installed for it to work, but the program told me
that. So I'm not sure what happened to drybones.

Glad to hear it worked for you.
