Can I change the sort order to Alpha before Numeric?

Can I change the sort order to Alpha before Numeric?
ie EB45 before E45B
 
If sorting in special manners is something you have to do frequently, then
Jim Cone's fine commercial Add-in called "Special Sort" may be something
useful for you.
