Can I change card print style to print longer notes?

I would like to print Journal entries one following the other on a page,
including Notes. The Notes field currently truncates in the screen view and
in the print view for any view that includes multiple entries on a page. Is
there a way to get the entire Notes field to print besides having to use the
one entry per page approach?

No. If you want the entire item to print, you must use the Memo style.

The name Journal would seem to be a little misleading in this instance. when
I hand write a journal, I don't make each entry on a new page. I just start
below the last entry.

Do you have any suggestions about how I might do this?

See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/customprint.htm for various custom printing solutions. The Word template technique is the most flexible and highly recommended.

Well, I've tried all that you suggested and can't do what I want.

Why was Journal designed with such a limitation?

Can't print what I want from Journal and can't export Journal info to
another application. How dumb!

Journal seems to be an afterthought. It's probably used even less than Tasks, which only 30% of Outlook users bother with.

You didn't mention export problems earlier?

I "misspoke" about exporting. Export works but requires so much manipulation
after it's done. I may yet use it, but what a waste of time.

I really was talking about the mailmerge process. If the "normal" journal
entries were available it might be useful, but appearently they are not. I
tried to make a custom field that was a formula that copied the Note field,
but it only copies the first 256 characters, which is the same problem I
encountered when I tried to print using the card style. Where does that 256
character limit come from?

For years I've tried to find a good use for Journal. I finally found one
and Journal fails to deliver.

I need to make daily entries of visits to project sites. It works great.
I need to be able to look at those entries by date. It works great.
I need to be able to look at those entries by project. It works great.
I need to print a report of a vist. It works great.
I need to print weekly report of all visits. It works great, as long as I
don't write more than 256 words per visit.
I need to print periodic report of all visits to a project. It works great,
as long as I don't write more than 256 words per visit.

I've been using Word, but it is cumbersome on those last two also. Journal
looked so promising until I had to make a longer entry.

Without those last two it isn't very satisfactory.

Have you ever tried using Access? You can create an Access table that's a link to an Outlook folder and then use Access' reporting capability. I haven't tried it with journal items, but it might be worth looking into.

So, I thought I would go back and revisit the export idea even if I would
have to manipulate the result a little more than should be required.

Again, a sad story.

Export (to any of the formats, but lets use Windows Tab Delimited) sends
most of the data I need, including all of the body text to export, which is
good. Much better than any other process i've tried. BUT it will not export
Contact or Contacts, which is the project name. The Map function offers
Contact Name to be exported, but it comes out blank even though the Journal
view has a name in the Contact field.

I tried to make a custom formula field Project Name that copied Contact, but
the custom field is not offered for export in the Map function.

Somebody didn't complete what they started on this application.
