Can I and how would I scan a document into powerpoint?

Some older versions allowed you to do this. But you may need to do a custom
install of Microsoft Office to use this option.

The option is : Insert | Picture | From Scanner or Camera

You can also scan it outside PowerPoint, and choose

Insert | Picture | From File.
