Can I align with one object fixed?

Hi,
I would like to align drawing object center or middle
without moving one or more of the objects I'm aligning.
For example, I have two rectangles where I want the
centers aligned. I select both rectangles and Align
Center, but I can't seem to control which rectangle moves.
Any ideas are most welcome.

When you align left, the objects will be aligned based on the leftmost object.
When you align right, the objects will be aligned based on the right most
object.
When you align center, the objects will both be moved and aligned to a point
halfway between the left edge of the leftmost item and the right edge of the
rightmost item.
Experiment with multiple alignment. For example, align selected objects left
and then align them center. The item that starts on the left will stay there.
