Can I add a word attachment (resume) to an Access contact?

I am a recruiter that is starting a database of contacts. I would like to be
able to attach a Word format resume, to their contact information. I am not
familiar with Access. Is that possible?

Yes, this is possible, but I recommend you do not try to store the Word
document inside your database. Instead, store only the path to the file on
your hard disk.

When you want to open the document you can use the FollowHyperlink method,
which will open your document in a standalone instance of Word.

I'm trying to do exactly the same thing. Thanks Graham, it's great to know
that it's possible, but I'm afraid that I'm such a novice that I don't even
know how to do what you suggested. I tried playing with adding a Hyperlink,
but it seems to want to link to the same file for every record, whereas I
need to link to a different resume each time.

Any very simple advice for a complete beginner?
Words of 1 syllable would be nice ;-)

Too bad "hyperlink" has three... let's call it a Hyp! <g>

You need a field in your Table with a datatype of Hyp. Each row in the
Table should have its own Hyp. If you just put a Hyp box on a Form it
will not work, you need the Table.

(There, only "Table" violated the one syllable rule... thanks for the
challenge!)

Thanks John,

Turns out the problems I was having were more down to 'idiot at keyboard'
rather than not being able to follow your original instructions. Your nice
simple instructions helped me realise that though.
