can footnotes be created for an excel spreedsheet

Can footnotes be created for an excel spreadsheet. While it is in Excel. Not
after it has been converted to word.

Jacob that would be one way of doing it; however, I was thinking about using
symbols and placing it at the bottom just like a journal. Is this possible
