Can Excel add a set percentage to a cell automatically when you type in a number

  • Thread starter Thread starter Chris B.
  • Start date Start date
Suppose the number you are about to type is 12.
Instead type=12*1.08

Or if you have a column of numbers: type in the numbers
Type 1.08 in a blank cell and copy
Select the column of numbers and use Edit|Paste Special->Multiply

best wishes

Hi
if you need this in the same cell you'll need VBA (an event procedure).
Why not use an adjancet cell with the formula
=IF(A1<>"",A1*1.08,"")

Here is a VBA solution.

Change the H1:H10 to the range of your choice

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)

On Error GoTo ws_exit:
Application.EnableEvents = False
If Not Intersect(Target, Me.Range("H1:H10")) Is Nothing Then
With Target
If IsNumeric(.Value) Then
.Value = .Value * 1.08
End If
End With
End If

ws_exit:
Application.EnableEvents = True
End Sub

'This is worksheet event code, which means that it needs to be
'placed in the appropriate worksheet code module, not a standard
'code module. To do this, right-click on the sheet tab, select
'the View Code option from the menu, and paste the code in.
