Can Defender interfere with AntiVirus, that checks for Spyware, too?

Hello!

My antivirus (Sophos, but I think many others will do the same) offers
me also to scan for unwanted software like spy- or adware, also on
access. When having this enable should I disable the real time
protection of Windows Defender? It's often said, that two simultaneous
on-access-scanners are not good; is this also for Windows Defender or
works it in any other way, where it doesn't interfere with the AV?
Would be great, if someone could explain.

Thanks and many greetings from Germany,

Volker

I removed Defender before I installed Norton Internet Security 2007. Figured
having more than one doing the same job could slow things down.
