can certain files be deleted from WindowsXP?

A 'spy software' detector recognized two files that are
imbedded in WindowsXP directories.
1) c:\windows\system32\llass.exe
2) c:\windows\system32\wuauclt.exe

Question: Are these essential files for Windows OR are
they possibly files that were downloaded to my computer
for purposes of 'spying'?
 
You can delete llass.exe but wuauclt.exe is a valid windows program,
although a google search states that it's a microsoft application that
searches for updates to Windows ME.
