Can AVG be stopped from running every day?

Walter Donavan

Since I downloaded the new version of AVG Free Antivirus, it insists on
running a full scan every morning. I can neither change the time of day nor
stop it from running. Every morning my computer slows to a crawl until I
remember to stop AVG.

My computer has been clean for years. I run a full complement of security
programs. (AVG, Ad-Aware, Sygate Personal Firewall, Microsoft Antispyware,
Spyware Blaster, TeaTimer, and SpyBot S&D.)

I never get any spam and I do get all my email. (Don't ask me how, maybe
it's BellSouth.) I go only to above-board sites such as Wired.com.

I don't need a daily 50-minute virus scan that never finds anything. Is
there any way to turn the damned thing off so I can run it manually (short
of buying the full version :) )?

Thanks for your help.

Double-click the AVG tray icon.
Select Scheduler
Click the Scheduled Tasks button
Select the Test Plan schedule
Click the Edit Schedule button

There is no Scheduler/Scheduled Tasks, etc. ??? This is version 7.0.300.

Start AVG. Click "Control Center". Click "Scheduler". Click "Scheduled
Tasks" at bottom of screen. Click/highlight "Test plan in basic mode".
Click "Edit schedule". Un-check "Periodically start scheduled
antivirus test". Click "OK".

While there you may want to disable automatic updates: Click/highlight
"Update plan in basic mode". Click "Edit schedule". Un-check
"Periodically check for Internet updates". "OK" and "Close" your way
out.
