Hi

I'm looking to buy a new PSU as mine has blown.
Here are my specs at the moment (Building a new system to replace this ancient 633MHz one lol)

Board: MSI K8MM3-V or ASRock K8NF4G Sata2 (Have both boards, don't know which is best)
Processor: AMD Sempron 3000+ Socket 754
RAM: 1GB Elixir 3200
DVD: NEC DVD RW
HDD: Samsung 80GB

The case has a built in PSU at 500W, but it's blown. No power at all from it so I'm looking for a replacement.

I'm on a tight budget, so looking to spend no more than £40 (approx $80)

Here are some links anyway of local shops. I don't want to do mail order as I want to complete the build tomorrow.

ATX 500W MAGNA SILVER & CLEAR PSU

ATX 650W TRIPLE FAN PSU QTEC (14348) 24P

EZCool 600w 12cm Silver Quiet PSU+SATA

Ezcool 400W power supply 8CM fan

I'm also presuming that although the case came with a built-in PSU, I'd be able to remove it and add a new one in its place?

Does this setup look ok btw?

Many thanks

Michael

All rubbish in my opinion, wouldnt touch em.

Go for something made by either Hiper, Tagan, Antec, Enermax, Seasonic or OCZ.

A low quality PSU can kill a whole PC easily.

Dont skimp on the psu, like reefsmoka says it can ruin your whole pc.
With the specs you've given, you shouldnt need more than 550W.
However with a budget of £40 it will be hard to find a good psu... you'll probably strech to about 50-60 for a decent one :D

Agreed - to be honest something around 400/450W would be more than adequate :thumb:

I have one of these ...

... actually I have had two, still got one ... very impressive for the price ... I'm not that impressed with the build quality though ... to actually get it to work, it needs fitting upsidedown.

oh, just to make myself clear here, do not buy it. Mine was free. ;)

My PSUs from choice are Enermax ... still have one running very nicely after 5 years, mind you it cost £75. ;) The 'replacement' to that is another Enermax bought two years ago for £55 and is bigger and better.

You will find good PSUs for around £40 but try and stick to a branded name as above and don't bother thinking a 350-400 will not do, 'cos that is not what you should be looking at in a PSU. :thumb:

In which case, can't really go wrong with this.

Yes, I know it's PC World but I've had good experiences with Jeantech PSU's, they're really very good.

Other PSU's there as well, suitable, less than 40 quid.

You can order this online for £39.99 and then collect it from your nearest store, btw, don't pay instore price.

He's looking for a psu for under £40 so the hyper is no good to him...

You want one of these...

2nd one from the bottom and just about in your budget, should see you system good for a few years.....I would use the MSI k8mm board as they are nicer than the AsRocks and you can throw almost anything at them....

I agree here on all counts ... this is my 5 year old Enermax "Updated" for todays needs ... and will you just look at the price.

A 350 would run that lot!

Quite.

A Jeantech 350W from PC World is less than 40 quid.

Look, I would ALWAYS recommend a name PSU, time and time again have I stressed not to underestimate the importance of PSU, but......

If you're on a budget, let's look sensibly at options, ok?

I have used about ten Jeantech PSU's over last 5 years or so, all are still chugging away, far as I know.

Just like hard disks, now and again we'll buy something that craps out on us, that's the luck of the draw. 10 PSU's,one on average every 6 months, that were all ok, seems enough to give them a recommendation for me.

But, really, OCZ, Hyper, Tagan - all good.

Must admit, I've lost faith in Antec PSU's after three died on me in less than one year, the eldest of which was three years, the others not more than two years. Now, that IS bad, innit?

Anyway, where's the geezer who started this thread?

I really agree with you
