I have created a rule for any rule with [Norton Antispam] be marked as read
but doesn't get marked read. If I manualy run the rule but on it's own it
doesn't?

I think the problem is unless the ENTIRE suject matches, the rule won't
apply. Is there a wildcard or away to get any message with [Norton
Antispam] to be marked as read? A wildcard to ignore [Norton Antispam] and
read another part of the subject?

Remove the square brackets from the test expression. Have the rule fire on
"norton antispam"

That doesn't do it. Works just like the original way, when done manually.
Is there a script to run after e-mail has settled into a folder?

Did you add "Stop processing more rules" to the rule?
I just created a rule (in Outlook 2003) which ALWAYS automatically marks
incoming mail with the text "[Norton Antispam]", "Norton Antispam", or
"norton antispam" in the Subject line as "Read."

Here are the conditions of my rule
"With specific words in the subject" <== "norton antispam"
"Stop processing more rules"
"Mark it as read"

Note also, that this rule was listed as the first rule to be fired, with a
check mark beside it.

Yep, I always put "stop processing more rules" and is listed as the first
rule.
