I am looking to create a database that files my research papers. I am a
researcher and want to be able to access my papers via mutiple fields,
depending on what i am a looking at. For instance, can my papers be organised
so that i can search them by author name, publication journal, topic (if i
assign it) etc?

If you are looking to setup some type of index, or card file type system in
which you enter the paper name, date, time, authored etc, and perhaps a few
key words, then ms-access is a great way to organise this data.

If you are looking to have a text based search system that will search the
actual text in the documents, then ms-access is the complete WRONG tool
here.

Hi, would is be possible for me to link the information in access to files on
my PC? For instance, if i were to click on a paper inside access could that
open the paper in its actual location?

Yes. That is possible, but the operative phrase is "open the paper in its
actual location" and, also, "open the paper with the software registered on
the user's computer for that type of file." Note that neither of these
includes searching the text of the paper -- as Albert told you, Access is
not, and was not intended to be, a general text search engine.
