Can Access handle the project request

Is this something that can be done with access? Would this be ideal for access?

Currently the production floor uses a DOS program to print out forms with a
range of serial numbers. I need a Windows based program to printout the
same forms plus also print the serial numbers on labels with bar codes.
Something very simple. Here are the guidelines:

Any effort to print a serial already printed will provide a warning message

Serial number can be printed again once error message is acknowledged.

Number of times a serial number has been printed will be tracked along with
date

Serial numbers can print on a standard laser printer on standard label
sheets (ofc supply)

Size of the label sheets should be 8-1/2 by 11, labels can be standard
Avery approx 4†long, 1†high

We will work with different label sizes. Program should be able to
easily accommodate label

size change. This flexibility not needed immediately.

Bar code standard code 39

Layout below

Part number Serial No.

[|||||||| bar code ||||||||||||||]

The ability to enter a range of serial numbers and have them print in blocks
of 25 on the forms

and also print the appropriate number of serial #’s on whatever
label sheets we use.

Labels print with sufficient space on left side of label for end to be
folded under to allow for non-

sticky tab for transferring label as needed.

Person printing the serial number should have their initials stored in the
serial number database.

Ability to print report of serial numbers used, user ID’s, and dates they
were printed, number of times printed.

This program will save 1-1/2 of labor each day plus eliminate transcription
errors that take place.

Ms-access is ideal for this purpose.

Of course, one has to learn how to use the product, and that can take a
considerable amount of time. You might check with the companies that supply
you with the bar code readers, as they often supply a lot of cool neat-o
free bar code printing software.

However, I don't see any issues you ask for that can't be done in ms-access.
It is just a question of how much time one wants to spend learning the
product to accomplish what you want.

All in all, ms-access is a ideal tool to develop the kind of software you
are looking to develop, and the project you have would not be difficult at
all for any competent ms-access developer.
