found an old notebook i stored and forgot. it is a TI travelmate
4000, DX2 50MHZ. any possibility of finding components that would
permit upgrading for use as an internet browser and email machine for
dialup and high speed connections?
tia

Sure, it can. It may be a little slow (this is subjective, back when it was
new it was a real speed demon). Just need Windows 98 SE and network or
dial-up connection (if it has a PCMCIA slot or built in network or modem).

i think the hard drive is 240megs, is that large enough for win 98se?
these days everything has requirements measured in gigs...sam

What components does it have and what components are you looking for?

I wouldn't try to upgrade this old laptop of yours.
you can actually buy better laptop with a upgrade price,

well, this is what I think.

it would cost more than it's worth to upgrade the machine...
plus you'd be limited to just adding more ram and putting in a larger HD.
it can be used for win95 however.
it will work on the internet as both a browser and email

thanks all for your inputs. right now i am no longer able to boot up,
the floppy i was using is no longer recognized, if i can figure out
how to access the hard drive again i will attempt to install win 95.
the machine has a 200 meg hard drive and 8 meg of ram. if the install
fails it will be promoted to boat anchor.

The only components you would need are a reasonably recent OS (Win98?) and a
PC-Card network adapter. If the computer does not support Cardbus, finding an
older network card may be a bit more difficult.

Should be, with a minimal installation. I ran WFWG 3.11 on a 486SX laptop with
an 80mb drive, and still had room for part of MS Office and other apps...

Max out the memory if it there is room for more.
