Camera/removable disk

I have an Olypmus C50 camera that is handled as a
removable disk when connected to the USB port. It works
fine the first time after rebooting the system. However if
I disconnect the USB port, take more picture then connect
the camera a second time my system crashes, shows a blue
screen then reboots. If I leave the camera plugged in the
system will hang on the reboot. To get the computer
functioning again, I have to manually power it off then
on. I am running Windows 2000 professional with SP4. I
have tried connecting the camera on 5 different computers
running Windows 2000 and the same thing happens on all of
them. Has anyone else seen this problem or know of a fix?

do you safely disable the device in windows before disconnecting?
There should be a icon in the system try to do this from it looks like a
card with a green arrow over it (well does in xp).

Other version of windows can do this from the control panel.
