call of duty

Doug

I'm having problems with a 9600 which keeps freezing in Call of duty Asus
A7N8X Deluxe mobo, athlon 2800+, 1024Mb ram etc, got the latest drivers but
it still keeps freezing. This is my first Ati card for a long while, I've
been on a diet of nVidia products prior to this. Any ideas.

Thanks

Doug

Graphics card drivers are an easy target. I had the same problems, games
kept crashing. I upgraded my mobo drivers (especially AGP) and re-installed
DX9.0b. ATI's 3.9's now work sweet with COD, all eye candy on and
fast-writes enabled. Look at your other hardware first before crippling
your card.

XP2100+ (Palamino) No O/C

Sapphire 9600 Atlantis Pro

Get used to it. :(

ATI driver team for openGL games have a LONG way to go to match
Nvidias openGL drivers. ATI does have fairly good DX drivers though.

hi

got a similar setup
a7n8x deluxe with nforce 3.13, 2600+, 1gb PC2700 ram, and a 9600 pro with
3.9 cats
what cured my issues was;

1 - disable fast writes
2- reinstall direcx 9.0b

fast writes dont do shit in terms of performance so you aint losing anything
by turning it off. fast writes are an issue with ati cards at the moment
reinstalling directx replaces opengl files that are installed with the cats

try this, as call of duty works fine with my 9600 pro and 3.9 cats

hope this helps

Good and bad advice both.
Just because something is working flawless on your hardware does not
mean that it is flawless and working on someone else's. There may in
fact be a bug in the drivers. But it's always good to troubleshoot
other things first.

COD has had known and verified problems with the latest drivers, but
won't necessarily have them appear from configuration to
configuration.

<Gibs> When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament
it is "MonsterKill", In Quake3 it is "Excellent",
in Counter-Strike it is "Kicked by console"

Turn off the super high detail textures and models, just go with 'High' and
it should run smooth no matter how high everything else is. You can't really
tell the difference either.

Yep, mine kept locking up also until I toned down the high texture crap.
There was another similar game that also gave me this problem until the
textures were toned down a notch. Could have been MOHAA (same engine) but I
can't remember exactly.

If that doesn work then try a different sound engine setting. I also
switched mine to eax v.1.0.

I got stutter when I applied the patch. Id system restore to get back to
3.7, they work very nice.

I'm getting the same kind of freezes/crashes with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
mb and Nvidia 4600 graphics card, so it might not be your video card
causing the problems.

Did you try turning the texture down?

hehe... just had to comment on your sig. The 6 kill thing in Counterstrike
would be the Anti-cheat protection kicking in and booting you because either
you were using an aim-bot or you were too good to be able to play. My
cousin was a victim of that a few times because he would get headshots too
many times in a certain timeperiod (yes, he is that good and no he does not
cheat).

I had the same problem with my 9600 Pro. It turns out that versions 3.8 and
3.9 of the Catalyst drivers for the ATI cards are at fault (see article on
Tom's Hardware --
http://www.tomshardware.com/technews/20031120_045520.html). Recommend you
wait for the 3.10 drivers, and download and install the Catalyst 3.7 drivers
in the mean time. The 3.7 drivers were tested extensively with Call of Duty
and work without a problem.
