call a URL or click a link - IE hangs for about 5 seconds

When I call a URL or click a link, the resulting page
loads fully, but the progress bar in the bottom of the
browser is almost full, the page hangs. I cannot scroll
or click on anything, but then it un-hangs and every click
or scroll I tried when it was loading goes ahead. This
hang is approx 5-10 seconds.

I have IE 6.0.2800 with SP1 and W2000

Any ideas?
